While being a classic boy meets girl story, it has enough twists and turns to satisfy. The way of the two protagonists meeting, the small town mentality, and a good assortment of characters makes for a very interesting read. The final revelation was a surprise, but made perfect sense. The underlying theme of children being placed in a foreign environment, with no thought as to the emotional cost of estrangement from their heritage is also a very strong theme throughout the book.
