Elizabeth Horton-Newton gives us the tale of Kort and Grace, a couple who have an uphill battle to love. For starters, Kort is a convicted murderer, newly returned to his small home-town that swirls with prejudice and fear, where some people haven't changed since he left, but others have settled deeper into their grooves of mistrust and deceit. To make things more difficult, Grace is new to town with a broken down car and a pretty face. More than one local man find her intriguing, and many locals take offense that she's spending time with Kort - the most controversial person in town. When you factor in a stalker whose motives are murky, lingering effects of racial prejudice (Kort has Native American ancestry and was adopted by a white family), and a killer whose carefully concealed mania is beginning to fray at the edges, you have all the pieces of a spell-binding thriller.
